Tips to Improve Body Image

Realize that you can’t change your body type. If your hips are curvy, you can’t make ‘em straight. You will just have to learn to love, respect and accept yourself as you are…now.

Invest time and money in your appearance and your fitness. Get that treadmill you always wanted and use it. Buy some flattering clothing. Cut (and color) your hair in a new way. Treat yourself to a spa treatment or massage. There’s a lot you can do to make yourself feel good now.

Weigh yourself once a month (or less.) Better yet – if you obsess about the numbers on that little device, toss it out! Focus instead on how your clothes feel.

Stop comparing yourself to other people. Not everyone can look like Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt. Concentrate on your unique beauty. Do you have great hands? Beautiful cheek bones? Entrancing eyes? Everyone has something beautiful inside or out. Find out what your best physical attributes are and accentuate those.

Think about what you do well. Do you make the world’s greatest cheese cake? Are you a champion scrap-booker? Are you the one who consistently comes out on top of your friendly poker game? When you focus on the things that you do better than just about anyone, you can’t help but feel great about yourself.

Celebrate your body by moving it. Engage in physical activities that make you feel good. Walk a mile. Hike a trail. Climb a mountain. Just Live your life and enjoy yourself. When you know more about what your body is capable of, the better you will feel about it.

Make a list of all the people you admire. Are they all beauty queens, supermodels or hard bodies? Probably not. Think of the inner qualities that these people have that inspire you and work harder to cultivate these in your own life.

Surround yourself with positive people. Friends and family members who put you down do nothing to help your self-esteem or body image. Choose to spend time with those who love and cherish you as you are. Cut the rest loose.

Devote your time to make others feel better. When you get out of your own head, so to speak, and concentrate on improving the lives of others, you feel better about your body. You will begin to see that there are bigger (no pun intended) problems in the world than how attractive or unattractive you think you are. At the very least, you may even start to see your size or your perceived flaws as irrelevant. Your body is not the only thing that defines you. If you can help others, your self-esteem will get a major boost which will lift your body image up too.

Seek inner peace. Pray, meditate, read books and perform activities that put you in a place of connection with a higher power. When you feel connected to the universe, you feel better about yourself and your life. This power will radiate from within and you will find that you will feel better about the way you look on the outside as a direct result.
